Ice forecasts for the Eastern Waters of Newfoundland and Labrador
issued by Environment Canada at 10:00 A.M. EDT Monday 20 April 2026
for today tonight and Tuesday.
The next scheduled forecasts will be issued at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday.

Ice edge estimated from Newfoundland near 4745N 5243W to 4641N 4618W
to 5530N 5230W to 5700N 5600W to 6045N 5800W to 6200N 5700W then
northeastward. Sea ice north then west of the ice edge. 

Strait of Belle Isle - eastern half.
1 tenth grey-white ice except 8 tenths grey-white ice including 2
tenths first-year ice in the extreme eastern section. Consolidated
first-year ice along parts of the coasts. 

Strait of Belle Isle - western half.
Bergy water. Consolidated rotten first-year ice along parts of the
coasts. 

Belle Isle Bank.
2 tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice except 7 tenths
first-year ice including a trace of old ice in the western section. 

South Labrador Coast.
4 tenths grey-white ice including 1 tenth first-year ice except 8
tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice in the eastern
section. Consolidated first-year ice along parts of the coast. 

Lake Melville.
Consolidated first-year ice. 

Mid Labrador Coast.
6 tenths grey-white ice including 1 tenth first-year ice except 9
tenths first-year ice including a trace of old ice in the eastern
section. Consolidated first-year ice along the coast. 

South Labrador Sea.
Bergy water except 5 tenths first-year ice including a trace of old
ice in the western section. 

North Labrador Coast - Saglek and south.
8 tenths first-year ice. Consolidated first-year ice along the
coast. 

North Labrador Coast - north of Saglek.
6 tenths first-year ice except 9 tenths first-year ice in the
eastern section. Consolidated first-year ice along the coast. 

Northwest Labrador Sea.
1 tenth first-year ice including a trace of old ice except 6 tenths
first-year ice including a trace of old ice in the western section. 

East Labrador Sea.
Bergy water. 

South Coast
Southwestern Grand Banks
Southeastern Grand Banks
East Coast - Cape St. Francis and south.
Bergy water. 

East Coast - north of Cape St. Francis.
Bergy water. Consolidated rotten first-year ice in a few sheltered
bays. 

Northern Grand Banks.
Special ice warning in effect.
Bergy water except 1 tenth first-year ice in strips and patches in
the northern section. 
Unusual presence of first-year ice in the northeastern section today
and continuing Tuesday.

Northeast Coast.
1 tenth first-year ice except 3 tenths first-year ice in the
northeastern section. Consolidated rotten first-year ice in a few
sheltered bays. 

Funk Island Bank.
2 tenths first-year ice except 5 tenths first-year ice including a
trace of old ice in the northwestern section. 

Tail of the Grand Banks
Flemish
Southeast Labrador Sea.
